Dashnaktsutyun’s Weak Political Trick

DASHNAKTSUTYUN’S WEAK POLITICAL TRICK

Lragir, Armenia

"It’s a weak political trick." On August 15 the Republican member
of parliament Galust Sahakyan said so in answer to the question of
Lragir.am. The reporter asked the question when the Republican said
all the political forces have to admit that the Republican candidate
will be elected president of Armenia. The problem is that the partner
of the Republicans, the ARF Dashnaktsutyun, would not accept it.

Moreover, the ARF Dashnaktsutyun is trying to make the Republicans
accept that it would be right if with the Republican majority and
a Republican prime minister the president were not Republican. The
ARF Dashnaktsutyun explains this approach from the point of view
of providing the balance of powers. It was interesting to know the
thoughts of the Republican Party on this viewpoint, especially through
Galust Sahakyan, who is known as the informal messenger of the real
approaches of the party.

"It is a weak political trick in the sense that they tell, ask the
Republican that the country will become stronger if they restrict
themselves a little for us to go ahead. It is impossible in the
political sphere," Galust Sahakyan says. According to him, the
presidential election is not merely a presidential election but
"a test on the measurements of the image of political teams, to
specify the forces that the political team will use and the type of
participation in solving the political problems of the country."

"I think the ARF Dashnaktsutyun is a sensible party, and I think
they are trying to offer this approach to the public. I do not think
there is a political team today which has enough resource to name a
candidate. Therefore I am saying that the political teams may talk
to one another, make arrangements and each will contribute to the
political and economic development of the country in accordance with
their role," Galust Sahakyan says.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
