YEREVAN, AUGUST 17, NOYAN TAPAN. This year the results of university
entrance examinations show that comprehensive schools have serious
problems related to teaching of natural sciences, the RA minister
of education and science Levon Mkrtchian stated at the August 17
press conference.
According to him, the number of low marks at examinations in such
subjects as mathematics, chemistry and physics increased this year
as compared with last year. The minister said that judging from
examination results, the level of teaching chemistry at schools
is expecially low, as a result of which the number of entrants who
prefer this speciality has declined. It was mentioned that only 18
out of 25 educational places allocated to Yerevan State University’s
(YSU) Department of Chemistry have been filled.
