YEREVAN, AUGUST 20, NOYAN TAPAN. The trial on the appeal made by the
plaintiff’s side against the decision of the Court of First Instance
concerning the criminal case filed against Aram Ghazarian, the Deputy
Director of the "Royal Armenia" company, and co-owner Gagik Hakobian
appointed in the Appeal Court on criminal cases did not take place on
August 20. Gagik Hakobian, one of the defendants, did not appear in
court, who, according to the defensive side, is receiving treatment
in Spain.
The plaintiff’s side declared that the defensive side should present a
written proof of that fact to the court. The court postponed the trial
until August 29 in order to find out the reasons for the absence
of Gagik Hakobian and the possible term for standing in front of
the court.
It should also be mentioned that this criminal case was filed on March
10, 2005 and Gagik Hakobian and Aram Ghazarian were put under arrest
in the seventh month of the preliminary examination.
The defendants were found not guilty and set free from the court
hall by the July 16, 2007 verdict of the Court of First Instance
of the Kentron and Nork-Marash communities of Yerevan. According
to the verdict, the prosecution brought the charges of faking
invoices, evading tax payment by using these invoices, smuggling
goods, legalizing illegal incomes, and taking property of Federal
Investment Group company by fraud against the defendants based only
on assumptions, the charges were not proven and well-founded.
