YEREVAN, AUGUST 22, NOYAN TAPAN. The Orinats Yerkir (Country of Law)
party will take an active part in the 2008 presidential elections. This
statement was made by Heghine Bishrian, the Deputy Chairwoman of
the Orinats Yerkir (Country of Law) party, at the press conference
held on August 22. However, according to her, it is still early to
speak whether this party will put forward its own candidature, as
"discussions between different political forces and groups are still
being held." According to Heghine Bisharian, the question of around
which candidate the political forces will unite will also be clarified
as a result of these discussions.
"If anybody wants to put forward his/her own candidature, let it be
Levon Ter-Petrosian, or anybody else, the people will give their
mark," the Deputy Chairwoman of the Orinats Yerkir party said. At
the same time, Heghine Bisharian expressed opinion that the best
candidate is the leader of the Orinats Yerkir party and advised the
political forces "to unite and stand beside Arthur Baghdasarian,
a serious political figure."
In response to the question of whether it is posiible to implement a
shift of power through elections, Heghine Bisharian said: "The people
should realize that elections are of great significance, that it to
say, they should elect not for money but in accordance with their
conscience, as a result of which we will have that change." The
Deputy Chairwoman of the Orinats Yerkir party also mentioned that
the people are in a very sad social-economic situation and that the
parliamentarian elections held in May "were elections of money."
