HIS HOLINESS ARAM I RECEIVED THE LAY COUNCILS
OF THE DIOCESES OF ALEPPO AND LEBANON

The newly elected Lay Council of the Diocese of Aleppo visited His Holiness
Aram I in Bikfaya yesterday, led by the Primate of the Diocese, Bishop
Shahan Sarkissian. The Pontiff and his guests discussed a number of projects
related to the Diocese. His Holiness praised the activities of the Diocese,
particularly in the spiritual and educational fields. During his last
Pontifical visit to Syria, His Holiness inaugurated a new church to be
constructed in Kamishli, as well as the new building and complex of
Haigazian College in Aleppo.

About three weeks ago, the Catholicos also received the newly elected Lay
Council of the Diocese of Lebanon, led by Primate Bishop Kegham Khatcherian.
During this meeting also, His Holiness praised the activities in the Diocese
and made several recommendations.
