Opposition Leaders Talk No Secret

OPPOSITION LEADERS TALK NO SECRET

Largir, Armenia
Aug 29 2007

On August 29 the reporters asked Mher Shahgeldyan, deputy leader of the
Orinats Yerkir Party, hosted at the Friday Club if the places where the
opposition leaders meet are checked beforehand for wiretapping. Mher
Shahgeldyan said with a laughter there is no checking before the
meetings of the opposition, besides, "the opposition leaders do not
talk about secret things," Mher Shahgeldyan said.

"Political figures gather, discuss their stances and approaches toward
the political development, the moods, possibilities," said the Orinats
Yerkir Party’s deputy leader.

However, the fact that wiretapping is widely used in Armenia is obvious
to Mher Shahgeldyan, especially after the revelation of the wiretapped
talk of the leader of the Orinats Yerkir Party Arthur Baghdasaryan
and the British diplomat. Therefore, Mher Shahgeldyan stated once
again that the OYP condemns wiretapping.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
