During the news conference of the first secretary of the Communist
Party on August 31 the reporters tried to find out his attitude toward
a statement by the Marxist Davit Hakobyan who had called on all the
political forces to join to support Levon Ter-Petrosyan despite the
difference in their ideologies.
"As to the statement of the chief or second Marxist that all the
parties from the All-Armenian Movement to the Communist Party must
come together to support Levon Ter-Petrosyan, nobody has the right
to make statements on our behalf. Every party leader should speak
on their behalf. At the right moment the Communist Party will make
its evaluation or statement. We categorically forbid anyone to make
statements on our behalf," Ruben Tovmasyan says.
With regard to Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s nomination he particularly
says the person who wants to run in the presidential election and
rule the country for some time must compare what we got, what he
did for the country and people. "From reputation to economic and
political consequences. Every presidential candidate must think on the
conditions and the reasons of the resignation and the justification of
his return. People once gave their vote of confidence and in fact the
first president did not protect this vote of confidence and left and
his team left with him. What does this mean, was there anything else to
do? And did he have to leave with all his team and leave it up to the
party of war to handle the fate of the nation?" Ruben Tovmasyan says.
The leader of the Communist Party says the party will not support
any other candidate besides its candidate, and if it does not name
president, it will explain why it did not name president.
