YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 3, NOYAN TAPAN. Yerevan has been turned into an
environmental disaster zone, and there is an ecological emergency
situation that requires respective measures. The chairwoman of the
association "For Sustainable Human Development" Karine Danielian
stated this at the August 31 press conference. In her words, today
"construction business is not controlled and it serves the interests
of not so much the city as a group of oligarchs."

She said that 32 NGOs sent an open letter to the RA president,
the National Assembly speaker, the prime minister, the prosecutor
general and the ombudsman, demanding that development of those areas
in Yerevan where construction is being done with violations of human
rights and ecological norms should be stopped within a month.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
