Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian participated in the meeting
of the Foreign Ministers of the European Union and the European
Neighborhood Policy held in Brussels. The international conference
held under the slogan "Working Together – Strengthening the European
Neighborhood Policy" was opened by Manuel Barroso, President of
the Commission, Luis Amado, Foreign Minister of Portugal and the
current EU Presidency and Benita Ferrero-Waldner, EU Commissioner
for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy. The agenda
included issues of trade liberalization, mobility, and the challenges
of climate change and energy security.

Minister Oskanian made a speech at the conference. Making a historic
digression to the times of establishment of the European Union,
Mr. Oskanian its founders dreamt of peace and prosperity when both
seemed impossible.

Today both are guaranteed realities for Europeans, who have started
binding bridges between human beings, which surpass the old frontier
lines and take a new institutional shape, which is this Union. The
provisions of the Action Plans on the conflicts of the region include
one common view of resolution.

It has an integration context, which is a new vision of the settlement
process. The compliance of our legislation to European standards
provides various opportunities for economic integration. Soon we
shall start having shares in the European market, and Europe will
have shares in ours.

"This is the difference between the European Neighborhood Policy and
the all we have done during the past ten years of transition period
with the European Union," the Minister stressed.

On the sidelines of the conference Minister Oskanian had bilateral
meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Tunis, Estonia, Cyprus and
the Czech Republic.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
