RA GOVERNMENT APPROVES PROGRAM OF MEASURES ON ERADICATION OF AFRICAN PLAGUE OF PIGS AND ON PREVENTION OF ITS SPREAD

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 6, NOYAN TAPAN. In accordance with the RA Law
on Veterinary Science, the Armenian government at the September 6
sitting approved the program of measures on eradication of Africal
plague of pigs and prevention of its spread in Armenia. The program
was developed, taking into account the outbreaks of this disease in
Armenia and the current epidemiological situation in Georgia, with
the aim of reducing the damage to pig breeding to a minimum.
According to the RA Government Information and PR Department, the
composition of the republican anti-epidemic commission coordinating
the program and the action plan were also approved by this decision.
A quarantine has been imposed in order to prevent further spread of
African plague of pigs in Armenia. The RA minister of agriculture
was instructed to approve the list of quarantine control points in
the territory of Armenia, coordinating it with the RA police chief
and the appropriate regional governors.
The head of the State Food Safety and Veterinary Inspection of the
RA Ministry of Agriculture Grisha Baghyan told reporters after the
sitting that under the program, the RA ministry of finance and economy
was instructed to submit a package of proposals on compensation to
the government.
G. Baghyan said that so far 1,800 pigs have been killed in Armenia.
