DEMOCRATIC PARTY TO KEEP AWAY FROM EX-PRESIDENT

ARMENPRESS
Sep 11, 2007

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 11, ARMENPRESS: Chairman of a minor opposition party
said today his party would keep away from any opposition alliance,
bloc or a format that would have even a shadow of ex-president Levon
Ter-Petrosian.

Aram G. Sarkisian, head of the Democratic Party of Armenia (it
managed to receive only several hundreds of votes in the last May 12
parliamentary elections), blamed today Levon Ter-Petrosian’s Armenian
National Movement for breaking what cannot be restored anymore-the
people’s confidence. He argued that everything can be restored but
the people’s trust.

Aram G. Sarkisian said his party will decide the manner of
participating in next year’s presidential election in late October
or early November when it has its regular congress.

He, however, admitted that it would be meaningless for it to contest
the highest post of the country without possessing any meaningful
financial and other resources. He said his party does not see any
candidate now to back in the polls, but added that only ideology-based
cooperation is possible between his party and other political groups.
