"Soon is will be September 21, Independence Day, and we, in accordance
with tradition, will celebrate this anniversary," answered Andranik
Hovakimyan, vice-president of ANM, to a panorma.am journalist’s
question as to what the party’s coming activities were.
To the question of whether party representatives would be continuing
their visits to the provinces, and what expectations they had from
the people, Hovakimyan said the visits were of a continuing nature,
but added, "Concerning what we expect from the people, my personal
expectations were far less than what in fact actually exist. In other
words, I see both interest and maturity in the people, it’s just that
for too long this opportunity, for close and immediate contact with
the people, was left undone."
According to him, the people are now demanding change.
"Everyone understand that it is impossible to continue this way, and
are searching for an opening where they might see an alternative, a
chance for change," he said, adding, "that would be a major coalition,
made up from individuals, social organizations, and different political
forces, which would result in the realization of the demand for the
candidacy of the country’s first president."
