REPUBLICAN PARTY QUESTIONS ARF CHANCES TO COME SECOND IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 14, ARMENPRESS: A parliament member from
the governing Republican Party questioned today the chances of
the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) to come second in the
presidential election.
Armen Ashotian, one of the youngest lawmakers, said an opposition
candidate will have better chances to come second (after Republican
Party’s candidate).
Ashotian argued that the ARF decided to contest the presidential
election ‘because it failed to gratify its political ambitions during
the May 12 parliamentary elections."
"It would be wiser for the ARF to become a full opposition (but not
an alternative to the authorities and the opposition, as it says). As
a political party with a long history the ARF is able to turn into
a constructive opposition party to continue its historical mission,"
Ashotian said.
