Aghvan Hovsepian Appointed RA Prosecutor General
125 members of RA National Assembly participated in the elections of
RA Prosecutor General, yesterday. 118 of them voted for the candidacy
of Aghvan Hovsepian, 3 deputies were against. In the course of the
coming 6 years Aghvan Hovsepian will continue carrying out his duties
as RA Prosecutor General. This was the first time when the country’s
general prosecutor was elected by the parliament and wasn’t appointed
by the president. According to the latest amendments to RA Constitution
the same person can’t be appointed in the position of RA Prosecutor
General twice.
"Heritage" party members, being the representatives of the
parliamentary minority stated that the reality differs from what
the parliamentary majority sees and says, i.e. the positive view
on things. They added that the election of RA Prosecutor General
equals to the election between the country’s criminal past and its
legal present. In particular, Anahit Bakhshian gave this definition,
encouraged by her party members.
