"These people have nowhere to go. They treat national heroes like
animals. What is the aim of chaining them up?"
The trial of Shushi Battalion Commander Jirayr Sefilyan, freedom
fighters Vardan Malkhasyan and Vahan Aronyan began with those shouts
at the Appellate Court on Criminal and Marshal Issues.
Sefilyan refused to answer any question. Sefilyan’s each phrase was
welcomed by warm applause and Judge Mher Arghamanyan got indignant.
"If you seek entertainment go to cinemas, theatres or concerts," he
said. Sefilyan’s advocate Ara Zakaryan submitted a few petitions. He
asked the judge to ignore the unwarranted data presented by the
investigation body.
The advocates also pleaded for the change of the preventive punishment.
To remind, First Instance Court sentenced Jirayr Sefilyan and Vahan
Aroyan to 1.5-year imprisonment for illegal weapon bearing. Vardan
Malkhasyan was sentenced to two-year imprisonment for his calls of
power takeover. Today Malkhasyan’s advocate Mushegh Shushanyan stated
that Malkhasyan’s merely expressed his opinion which is stipulated
by the RA Constitution, international conventions and other laws.
