College" Community Forums

September 18, 2007

Glendale, CA – The Armenian National Committee – Glendale Chapter
in collaboration with the Glendale
Unified School
District will host two free educational forums
for parents of middle school and high school students. Both community
forums will be used to inform Armenian
speaking parents on such topic matters as high school graduation requirements,
4-year plans, character building, parenting tips, college admissions process,
and much more. Forums will take place on October 3, 2007 & October 17, 2007
>From 6:30pm-8:30pm at the Toll Middle School Auditorium.

"The ANC-Glendale Chapter organized the educational forums to provide
Armenian-American parents with the opportunity to learn about their
child’s school system and how they can be active in preparing their
student for success," commented ANC- Glendale Chapter Executive
Director, Elen Asatryan. "We hope parents will join us and discover
insightful way to guide their student," added Asatryan.

The first of the forums, to be held on October 3, 2007 from
6:30pm-8:30 pm at Toll Middle School’s Auditorium, will cover general
information on high school graduation requirements, 4 year plan, ELD
classes, A-G college admissions requirements, report cards as well as
the basic necessities of college admissions. During the first forum,
parents will acquire a firm understanding of the Glendale School
System and learn meaningful ways to communicate with their child’s
school.

The second forum will
take place on October 17, 2007 from 6:30pm-8:30pm at Toll Middle
School’s Auditorium. The seminar, unlike the first, will be geared
towards parents with students enrolled in the 10th, 11th, and 12th
grade, but everyone is welcome. The forum will cover topics such as
high school graduation requirements, college application process and
deadlines, financial aid, SAT & ACT college admission exams, how to
write person statements, and the difference between community colleges
and 4-year universities. Both forums will be conducted in Armenian and
doors are open to all who are interested.

"It is essential that our youth attend higher learning institutions in
order to be competitive in an ever growing global market," stated PTA
Council Historian, Elizabeth Manasserian, who is part of the planning
committee for the forums. ""By having key information at hand about
how the school system works, parents will be able to better assist
their children in taking the next step to success." added Manasserian.
