INDEPENDENCE IS A HOVERING BIRD

Independence is invaluable though it is gained through blood, sweat and
pain. The fruits of independence are bitter and yet independence is
sweet. Once you close a bird in a cage it will struggle for freedom
and once you deprive a man of his freedom, his heart will break
from impotence.

The Republic of Armenia is 16 years old. On September 21, 1991,
the Armenian people proclaimed independence by saying "yes" at the
referendum. They chose the path of independence without its further
outcome.

Independence is one of the greatest achievements of the Armenians
worldwide despite the losses and difficulties of the past 16 years.

We congratulate all Armenians on this great holiday -on the
Independence Day. Let Armenia’s independence be eternal.
