`EACH PERSON IS THE MASTER OF HIS LIFE’
[09:45 pm] 21 September, 2007
The Armenian people lived under the reign of the
Soviet Union for 70 years. People were content with
their life.
They complained of one thing: they were not given a
chance to elect. We lived in a totalitarian system, I
would rather say in a post-totalitarian system.
Nowadays we live in autocracy. These systems are alike
in view of elections and differ from democratic system
by this characteristic feature, AZhK leader Shavarsh
Kocharyan said.
We simply could not shift from a totalitarian system
to a democratic one. If we managed we could see the
vital difference between the two systems.
According to Mr. Kocharyan, a USSR citizen had no
future.
I can explain it in this way. Our future was
determined by the USSR which was a huge mechanism
absorbing everyone. The collapse of the mechanism came
to prove that each person is the master of his life
and his future is in his hands. Just we took a wrong
path in our life. Everything is doomed to failure in
case we continue this way,’ he concluded.
