Yerevan, 13 September: The investigative agency on the fight against
corruption among high-ranking officials, which is planned to be set
up at the Armenian Prosecutor-General’s Office, will be not used for
political purposes, Armenian Prosecutor-General Aghvan Hovsepyan said
at the parliament in Yerevan today.
Answering questions from MPs, he pointed out that the new agency
will not engage in search operations or in compiling dossiers on
high-ranking officials. Hovsepyan said that similar agencies are
functioning in several European countries as well.
The bill on the establishment of the investigative agency on the fight
against corruption among high-ranking officials will be submitted
to the Armenian parliament soon. Its head will be appointed by the
Armenian president at the proposal of the prosecutor-general.
