Armenian Defence Minister Says 224m Dollars Received From State Budg

ARMENIAN DEFENCE MINISTER SAYS 224M DOLLARS RECEIVED FROM STATE BUDGET IN 2006

Yerevan, 11 September: In 2006 the Armenian Defence Ministry bought
26,000 pieces of various weapons at the state budget’s expense.

Armenian Defence Minister Mikael Harutyunyan said this when he was
reporting to parliament on the state budget implementation in the
defence sphere in 2006.

Harutyunyan said that about 75.3bn dram [224.2m dollars] had been
allocated in 2006. A total of 26,000 pieces of various weapons and
147 new vehicles were bought in 2006. The Armenian army’s stocks of
missiles and other weapons increased by 17 per cent in comparison to
the previous year. The expenses for maintaining the missile troops,
artillery and air force units in full combat readiness have increased
by 10-15 per cent.

[Arminfo, Yerevan, in Russian 1525 gmt 6 Sep 07 reported that a
plant producing bullets and cartridge cases had resumed operations
in Armenia. The closed-type joint-stock company DG Arms Corporation
invested 4.7m dollars to repair and modernize the plant, the report
said. The funds were spend for the plan’s technological upgrading.

The plant can produce bullets and cartridge cases to the tune of 100m
dollar a year, the report added.]
