A man who was returned from his native Armenia in 2005 in connection
with a slaying five years earlier in North Hollywood was sentenced
today to 21 years in state prison.

Akop Akopyan, who was sentenced by Van Nuys Superior Court Judge
Barry Taylor, pleaded guilty last month to voluntary manslaughter and
admitted personally using a gun.

Akopyan, now 34, was arrested in August 2005 in Yerevan and turned
over to the FBI to be extradited to the United States.

Authorities believe he and the victim, Garnik Madoyan, had a long-
standing dispute.
