The Kajaran-Ararat section of the Iran-Armenia natural gas pipeline
will be a length of 197.4 kilometers and cover 987 hectares. These
measurements were designated at an executive meeting today. As
announced by the government’s press service, in order to meet the
deadline for construction the executives suggested signing a contract
with "Hayrusgasard" to accomplish both the work of outlining the
project, and its construction, at the same time. January 2009 was named
as the date of the project’s completion. The ministers of agriculture,
nature protection, and energy participated in the meeting, as well
as the head of the state committee of real estate of the provinces of
Syunik, Vayots Dzor, and Ararat. These officials were assigned the task
of working with local communities in the regions of the Kajaran-Ararat
line, to study soil conditions (especially in forests), any changes
needed in the proposed construction. They were also assigned the task
of taking care of reparations to those who might lose their land as the
project work is being completed. We remind that work commenced on the
141 kilometer-long natural gas line from Iran to Armenia in November of
2004. The project’s cost is figured at around 200-250 million dollars.
