The 50th annual assembly of the International Union of Judges was
held in Norway from September 23-27.
Armenian Union of Judges is also a member of the union. The Appeal
Court sources told Panorama.am that Hrachik Sargsyan chairman of the
Armenian Union of Judges who is also the chairman of Armavir first
instance court, Davit Avetisyan, deputy chairman of the union and
a judge of Appeal Court and Samvel Ohanyan, judge of Appeal Court,
took part in the conference.
Only Armenia and Kazakhstan are members of the International Union
of Judges from the region. The conference aimed to discuss issues
related to independence of the judiciary. The international union gave
high credits to the Armenian delegation’s "Interpretation of rules of
judge’s behavior" and suggested to post it at the union’s web page and
in an electronic journal of a regional organization of European judges.
Among other issues, the assembly decided on the venue for conducting
next annual assembly. Proposals were submitted by Armenia, Spain,
Romania and Kazakhstan.
Our delegation had made a similar suggestion last year.
A closed ballot voting decided that the annual assembly of the
International Union of Judges will be held in Yerevan in 2008, most
probably, in September.
Three hundred fifty judges will arrive in Yerevan within the framework
of the assembly.
