The reporters asked Khosrov Harutunyan, the leader of Christian
Democratic Union of Armenia (KDM), about the role of Nagorno Karabakh
in the upcoming presidential elections. Harutunyan said if Levon
Ter-Petrosyan participates in the elections, Nagorno Karabakh may
become the focal point of pre-election discussions. In his words,
swift resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict is necessary for Armenia
both in short run and long run. KDM leader agreed with the opinion of
the first president expressed in the known article where he says the
compromise is not a choice between the bad and the good but is a choice
between the bad and the worse and the one wins in the compromise that
is stronger. "We are saying that Azerbaijan is strong and is getting
stronger. Does this mean that we are thinking that Armenia may not
play an adequate role in the negotiation process? Let me not agree
with this," he said also saying Nagorno Karabakh conflict must be
regulated but not at any price.

In the opinion of Khosrov Harutunyan, Karabakh conflict has regional
significance and Armenia must consider lifting of Armenian-Turkish
border as a number one political issue. "When the Armenian-Turkish
border is lifted, I assure you that the political and geopolitical
significance of Karabakh conflict regulation will decrease," Harutunyan
shared his opinion.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
