JAAP DE HOOP SCHEFFER: FINDING SOLUTION TO THE CONFLICTS IN THE CAUCASUS IS OF VITAL IMPORTANCE

NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer declare din Tbilisi
today that "finding solution to the conflicts in Georgia and the wider
Caucasus is of vital importance for the security of the Euro-Atlantic
region."
Speaking at the Tbilisi State University, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said
" NATO has repeatedly expressed its support for the independence,
sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and its other Partner
countries in the Caucasus."
"But the mandate and expertise to try and resolve the conflicts in this
region rest with the OSCE and the UN, not with NATO. And the Alliance
does not seek stronger involvement," the Secretary General noted.
