YEREVAN, October 5. /ARKA/. Armenia needs to strengthen the
population’s trust in the institutes of Constitutional Court and Human
Rights Activist, said Secretary General of Venetian Commission Giani
Buchichio during the 12th international conference on "International
experience of cooperation of constitutional courts and ombudsmen in
providing protection of human rights" in Yerevan.

"The institutes of Constitutional Court and Ombudsman in Armenia
are very functional and have a great role in the protection of human
rights. Armenia just needs to strengthen people’s trust," he said.

He said that the above-mentioned institutes need cooperation based
on the common missions and aims. According to the Secretary General
the institutes of Constitutional Court and Ombudsman supplement each
other in Armenia and other countries of the European democracy.

He said that Ombudsman’s role is to make the legislative acts
comprehensive for the country’s population.

He pointed out that Ombudsman has a positive role in the improvement
of the national legislation without participating in the adoption of
laws but following them to be properly executed.

The Constitutional Court being a neutral body does not oppose the
Activist’s institute and contributes to the proper execution of
legislation and protection of human rights.

"The Venetian Commission attentively follows the cooperation of these
institutes," he said.

Yerevan International Conference on Human Rights has been held in
Armenia’s capital since 1995. The 12th conference is dedicated to
the international experience of cooperation of constitutional courts
and Ombudsmen in providing protection of human rights. The conference
will last till October 6.
