DASHNAKTSUTYUN IS NOT A SPOILT CHILD

The secretary of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun faction Artashes Shahbazyan
reminded on October 5 when Dashnaktsutyun signed a collaboration
agreement with the coalition government after the May 12 election, it
set down its independence in political processes. Artashes Shahbazyan
reminded this when the reporters asked him to comment on the backlash
of the pro-government media to the meeting of Levon Ter-Petrosyan
with the ARF leaders.
"I think it should not surprise anyone that we may meet with anyone.
The ARF leadership has had a series of meetings over this period, and
these meetings will continue, with forces, including the All-Armenian
Movement leadership, the ex-president of Armenia. It might be a little
strange, considering some events of the past, but the maturity, good
sense of political forces, the principle to uphold national interests
necessitate political maturity and ignoring of our inner feelings,
if it is necessary and favorable for the country’s interests, for
the political processes, for our future," Artashes Shahbazyan says.
He also says he did not feel a backlash on the part of the country’s
leadership to the meeting of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun and Levon
Ter-Petrosyan. "I should note that I didn’t feel that the president
or the prime minister were surprised, startled. That is how it should
be. It would be strange if we ever broke agreement with our political
colleagues," Artashes Shahbazyan stated.
The leader of the ARF faction Hrair Karapetyan says he does not
think their voters may misunderstand the meeting with Ter-Petrosyan
and not vote for the ARF Dashnaktsutyun. Hrair Karapetyan thinks the
ARF Dashnaktsutyun is the party which displays a political stance on
political processes. "We are not spoilt children, we are responsible
for all the political contacts and processes, and this is going to
be our way," Hrair Karapetyan says. According to him, their voters
vote for the ARF Dashnaktsutyun because this party places national
interests above all other kinds of problems.
