BELMONT | Community Briefing
ARMENIAN CELEBRATION – The Belmont Human Rights Commission will host a
free concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 by the Arev Armenian Folk Ensemble,
a mix of traditional and contemporary Armenian music, at Chenery
Middle School as part of its mission to raise awareness of diversity.
Belmont recently received a history lesson on the Armenian people:
Selectmen voted last month to sever ties to No Place for Hate, a
program sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League, in protest of the
ADL’s ambiguous description in the past of the massacre of some 1.5
million Armenians. In the wake of this year’s protests, the league
recently referred to them in a statement as "tantamount to" genocide.
