"Establishing ties between the Diaspora and the homeland in
Soviet years was difficult," Harutyun Arzumanyan, Tekeyan society
representative from the USA and Canada, said today at a press
conference. The society was one of the first to create a bridge
between Armenia and the Diaspora.

"After independence, it became easier for Diaspora Armenian
organizations to communicate with the homeland. They invited artists
from Armenia, thus acquainting themselves with Armenian culture,"
he said. Yervant Azarian then pointed out that "slowly but surely,
drops of water make their way through marble. Of course, we have
schools and churches, but without government help, it is hard to
maintain these institutions."

Turning to the subject of House Resolution No. 106, they
are of the belief that the supposed enthusiasm in congress is
exaggerated. "Resolution 106 is a national question. There isn’t
a lot of weight to it; it is more symbolic than anything. Rudolf
Perina cannot express himself in the same way John Evans did," Azarian
said. In his opinion, even though the discussion of 106 is symbolic,
it is still a big American slap in the face to Turkey.
