YEREVAN, OCTOBER 10, NOYAN TAPAN. "There is no worthy political
force in Armenia, whom the Communist Party of Armenia will support
in the upcoming presidential elections." Ruben Tovmasian, the first
Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia,
stated at the October 10 press conference. And the final decision
about the party’s participation in the elections will become known
after the 37th congress to be held in November.
Touching upon the issue of first RA President Levon Ter-Petrosian’s
running for the elections, R. Tovmasian said: "The current authorities
should be changed, this is clear. But to replace a bad thing by
another bad thing is already inadmissible."
Grigor Haroutiunian, the Board Secretary of the People’s Party of
Armenia, said that PPA has enough resources for taking part in the
elections with a candidate of its own. However, in his words, "in
order to fight the current rough authorities" it is more expedient
to run for the elections with a common candidate.
