Armenia’s former president Levon Ter-Petrosian was reportedly on a
visit to Nagorno-Karabakh on Thursday where he met with President
Bako Sahakian in Stepanakert.
Nikol Pashinian, one of the leaders of the Aylentrank public-political
initiative, told RFE/RL that the main goal of Ter-Petrosian’s visit
to Nagorno-Karabakh was to congratulate Bako Sahakian in connection
with his election to the presidential post.
According to RFE/RL sources, on the way back to Armenia Ter-Petrosian
made a stop at Lachin where he talked to ordinary people, inquired
about their social situation and living conditions.
Since late summer Ter-Petrosian toured Armenian provinces presumably
in a bid to build up a support base for his shot at presidency in
next year’s election.
The 62-year-old former leader, who spent eight years in political
reclusion before making his first public speech last month, has not
yet expressly stated his intention to run for president.
