"Resolution 106, adopted by the House Commission on Foreign Relations
with 27 votes pro and 21 contra, has no political or juristic
importance, it is rather a moral victory," said yesterday at "Urbat"
club Arpi Vardanian, head of the Armenian and Nagorno-Karabakh
Representations of the Armenian Association of Armenia. She also
added that October 11 is a remarkable day for all the Armenians. A
similar resolution was pending last year, but it did not pass to the
House of Representatives. Ms. Vardanian said that the Turkish campaign
against Resolution 106 was unprecedented, and its aggression served
to the contrary: many senators considered the pressure inappropriate
and voted for the Resolution. Taking into consideration’s Turkey’s
capabilities and rich financial resources, the support of the US
Government and George Bush personally, Armenia must be proud having
achieved adoption of the resolution.

This victory, Arpi Vardanian said, shall be completed in case of
the Resolution’s discussion at the House of Representatives, which
supports it for more than 50%.

The authority of submitting resolutions to the House of Representatives
belongs to Nancy Pelosi, who is a member of the Commission on
Armenian Issues and has always supported the recognition of the
Armenian Genocide.

Ms. Vardanian assured that henceforth the Armenian lobby in the USA
shall go on with its activities with even greater enthusiasm. She
noticed that the Armenian organizations should also always keep an
eye on the activities of the Turkish lobby and expressed hope that
the authorities of Turkey will prove sensible enough not to start a
campaign against the Armenians of Turkey.

According to Arpi Vardanian, the adoption of the Resolution may have
both positive and negative influence on the relations between Armenia
and Turkey.

She said that it may encourage other states to recognize the Armenian
Genocide officially.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
