Turkish envoy to USA arrives in Turkey for consultations

Istanbul, 13 October: Turkish Ambassador to the United States Nabi
Sensoy, who was recalled for consultations after approval of the
resolution regarding Armenian allegations on the incidents of 1915 by
the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, arrived
in Istanbul on Saturday [13 October].

Sensoy told reporters at the airport that he will proceed to Ankara
tomorrow and begin holding consultations as of Monday.

"The US administration has opposed the resolution since the very
beginning. Since the administration has done everything it could and
taken all measures to prevent its passage, we will determine our
attitude by taking into consideration the importance of
Turkish-American relations. Now, we will try to prevent passage of
the resolution by the full House. I hope that we will succeed in it,"
he said.

Upon a question about his recall to Turkey, Sensoy said that he was
invited to Ankara temporarily for consultations. "In diplomatic
language, the word of recall is also used for consultations. It has a
peculiar meaning. It rather means a protest," he said.

Sensoy added that Turkey’s response to the resolution should befit
the importance and history of Turkish-American relations.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
