Sun, 14 Oct 2007 22:34:34

Armenian Ambassador to Iran, Karen Nazarian
Armenian envoy to Tehran, Karen Nazarian says Yerevan welcomes the US
Congress’ move to pass a resolution on the ‘Armenian genocide.’

Nazarian told Press TV on Sunday that `the tragic event of the
forcible deportation and massacre of 1.5 million Armenians’ by the
Ottoman Empire is in fact an `act of genocide.’

He also added that according to the Genocide Convention, the Empire
was guilty of killing Armenians, who were deported from their
historic homeland.

When asked if Armenia is seeking apology and world recognition by
this resolution, Nazarian said: "Yerevan sees the resolution as an
important step to attain justice."

The ambassador said while Turkey refuses to hold unconditional
negotiations with Yerevan, the Armenian government is ready to
establish ties with Ankara through diplomacy.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
