The leader of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun-Movement 88 faction Armen Sargsyan
stated in today’s meeting of parliament that Member of Parliament
Gegham Baghdasaryan has resigned from the faction.

We asked Gegham Baghdasaryan to comment on his decision who said
over this period he has had controversies with the faction on two
principle issues.

"The first controversy occurred over the draft Constitution. Although
several important proposals offered by the faction were not taken into
consideration in the draft Constitution, the faction voted for it. I
was categorically against it. I abstained. The second controversy
occurred during the election campaign. I was against the opposition
parties to join the coalition to support the government’s candidate. I
think that this arrangement of forces and the creation of a one-pole
political system is dangerous for country, therefore my stance differed
from the faction’s stance in the election during the presidential
campaign. More controversies are likely to occur, therefore I preferred
to resign from the faction," Gegham Baghdasaryan said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
