YEREVAN, OCTOBER 18, NOYAN TAPAN. Hamlet Haroutiunian, a member of the
National Assembly RPA faction, categorically refuted the rumors that
allegedly Armenian Prime Minister Serge Sargsian’s visit to Washington
is connected with the upcoming presidential elections. "Why don’t
you see a striving for protecting Armenia’s interests in the Prime
Minister’s visit and istead you see a goal of receiving approval
for the 2008 presidential elections?" H. Haroutiunian said applying
to journalists.
According to him, the Prime Minister has rather many issues to
discuss with the U.S. authorities, in particular, the issue related to
aggravated relations of the U.S. and Iran. If the U.S. starts military
operations against Iran, Armenia will suffer most of all," the MP said.
He added that there are many politicians in Armenian political sphere,
who are proud of even the circumstance of "being acquainted with
the Kremlin’s watchman." That is why, according to H. Haroutiunian,
during election campaigns the latters strive for publishing their
photographs with foreign politicians.
