Jirair Sefilyan and Vardan Malkhasyan have been moved to
"Vardashen" prison from "Yerevan-Kentron" prison of justice ministry
yesterday. Arsen Babayan, press secretary of justice ministry criminal
execution department head, told Panorama.am that this was conditioned
by the fact the Sefilyan was a former military and Malkhasyan was a
police officer.
Point 4, article 68 of the Armenian Criminal Executive Code requires
that employees of courts, law enforcement bodies, customs and tax
services or their former employees, officers of army or former officers
as well as police officers or former police officers are kept separate
from other prisoners.
The press secretary also said that Vahan Aroyan will also be moved to
"Erebuny" prisons soon.
To recall, the Appeal Court did not change the ruling of first
instance court on the case of Jirair Sefilyan and Vardan Malkhasyan
and only put a harsher punishment on Vahan Aroyan meeting the demands
of the prosecuting party. The first instance court sentenced Jirair
Sefilyan to 1.5, Vardan Malkhasyan to 2 and Vahan Aroyan to 1.5 years
of imprisonment. By the decision of the Appeal Court, Vahan Aroyan
was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment.
