Armenian PM, US official discuss country’s involvement in Iraq,
Afghanistan

Yerevan, 19 October 19. Prospects of Armenia’s participation in the
recovery [reconstruction] work in Iraq and the peacekeeping operation
in Afghanistan were discussed on Thursday [18 October] in Washington
by the US Secretary of Defence Robert Gates and Armenian Prime
Minister Serzh Sarkisian [Sargsyan].

As Mediamax was told in the press service of the Armenian government,
Robert Gates highly assessed Armenia’s participation in the
Antiterrorism [anti-terror] coalition.

Serzh Sarkisian [Sargsyan], in his turn, noted the high level of
cooperation between the USA and Armenia, including the military
sphere, and expressed the readiness of the Armenian side to develop
relations in all directions.

Thanking the US authorities for the continuous aid for the Armenian
army, Serzh Sarkisian [Sargsyan] noted the importance of preserving
the equal volume of the military help rendered to the armed forces of
Armenia and Azerbaijan on the part of the US government.

The interlocutors also discussed the latest developments in the
process of the Karabakh conflict settlement. The Armenian prime
minister confirmed the adherence of Armenia to the peace resolution
of the conflict by means of compromise. The US Secretary of Defence
noted that the US authorities assist the efforts of the OSCE Minsk
Group for the peace settlement of the Karabakh problem.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
