The Politico (10/24, Hearn) reports Rep. Jack Murtha "caused squirming
in the speaker’s office and elsewhere last week among the Democratic
leadership by splitting with Pelosi on two major issues."

Murtha "renewed his proposal for a surtax to fund the war in Iraq,
even after Pelosi had dismissed the idea as unwise. And he cautioned
against bringing up a resolution, pushed by Pelosi, to condemn the
Armenian genocide in the early 20th century." These "breaches, which
followed similar disagreements over issues and strategy earlier this
year, put a new focus on one of the most interesting personal and
political relationships within the House Democratic Caucus."
