YEREVAN, OCTOBER 25, NOYAN TAPAN. "The relations between the two
countries are so good that protocol issues should not be concentrated
upon." Thus Vardan Oskanian, the RA Minister of Foreign Affairs,
commented on the departure of the President of Iran, who left Armenia
earlier than the envisaged term, at the press conference held on
October 25. In the words of the Minister, taking into consideration
the necessity of the moment, the terms of visits can be reduced and
that happens quite frequently in international practice.
For all that, the RA Minister of Foreign Affairs estimated the
visit of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a productive one. Vardan Oskanian
declared that the relations between Armenia and Iran are at a very
high level. According to him, a number of programs being implemented
between Armenia and Iran are not only of bilateral but also of
regional significance.
Touching upon the visit of the co-Chairmen of the OSCE Minsk Group
paid to the region a few days ago, Vardan Oskanian mentioned
that those visits have started to bear "a character of shuttle
dimplomacy." According to him, the main reason is that there is little
time left before the presidential elections. This circumstance lays
obstacles in holding a meeting between the presidents. The Minister
expressed hope that the "shuttle policy" will prove productive. In
the opinion of Vardan Oskanian, during their visits the co-Chairmen
will try to draw the approaches of the opposing parties closer with
regard to issues no agreement has been reached upon so far.
