YEREVAN, OCTOBER 29, NOYAN TAPAN. Current and future programs of
cooperation, and issues related to the Armenian banking system were
discussed at the October 29 meeting of the Armenian president Robert
Kocharian and the first vice president of the European Bank for
Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Varel Freeman.

R. Kocharian pointed out that the cooperation with the EBRD is
proceeding efficiently, opening new opportunities for expanding the
field of partnership.

V. Freeman in his turn said that the dynamically developing banking
system of Armenia and its financial sector reforms represent good
prerequisites for implementation of new large-scale projects.

NT was informed by the RA president’s press service that during the
meeting, the sides also spoke about the opportunities of developing
Armenia’s insurance market and attracting experienced foreign investors
to this sector.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
