YEREVAN, OCTOBER 31, NOYAN TAPAN. Feasibility studies are being done
with the aim of constructing a new nuclear power-generating unit in
Armenia. In all likelihood these studies will finish in late 2008. The
RA minister of energy Armen Movsisian told reporters on October 31
that after the completion of the feasibility studies, all technical
and economic paraemeters of the new unit will be clarified, as well
as sources of financing the construction of this unit will be found.

Speaking about the currently operating unit of the Armenian Nuclear
Power Plant (ANPP), the minister said that on Septemer 11 it was
stopped for scheduled repairs and fueling. According to A. Movsisian,
this work is proceeding in accordance with the schedule and the unit
will be relaunched in late November. It is envisaged to carry out
85-day major repairs at the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant next year –
such work is done every three years.

A. Movsisian informed reporters that over the past 3 years, all
types of work at the nuclear power plant have been done with funds of
ANPP. About 5 million dollars was needed for this year’s repairs. The
ANPP generates 2.5 billion kwh of power or 40-45% of power generated
in Armenia every year.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
