Oct 31 2007
Rep. of Armenia

On October 30 in St. Petersburg the sessions of the commissions
on Legal Issues, Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology,
Defence and Security Issues were held within the framework of the
Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth Independent States,
which were summed with IPA CIS Council session.

At the meeting of Mr. Tigran Torosyan, President of the National
Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, head of NA delegation in
IPA CIS and Mr. Sergey Mironov, Chairman of the IPA CIS Council,
Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the
Russian Federation the issues of deepening the inter-parliamentary
cooperation were debated. Mr. Mironov once again congratulated Mr.

Mironov on the occasion of the successful parliamentary elections
held in Armenia and the re-election in the post of the President of
the National Assembly. As he assessed, within the frameworks of the
parliamentary frameworks there had always been active cooperation,
and Mr. Mironov thanked the NA President, saying that though having a
great number of works during the pre-election period and immediately
after new elections, the delegation of Armenia was participating in
the works of IPA CIS.

Mr. Tigran Torosyan, NA President noted that the delegation of the
National Assembly as fully fledged member of the IPA CIS, actively
worked in the Assembly and the delegation of the National Assembly
of the fourth convocation will continue to work actively. The NA
President expressed a hope that the period of the parliamentary,
as well as presidential elections in the two countries would not
impede the development of cooperation within the Inter-Parliamentary
Assembly and in bilateral relations, and later, when the parliamentary
elections would be over in Russia, new opportunities of the development
of relations can be found. Mr. Torosyan wished successes Mr. Mironov
and the Just Russia party led by him in the elections of the State
Duma of Russia.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
