Careers in science not appealing to the country’s youth

`There is a serious concern in our scientific field today, and that is
the change of generations,’ National Academy of Science president
Radik Martirosyan said today, answering our question as to whether the
lack of financing is the only problem facing science in Armenia today.

`We have a lot to do. The desire to follow a career in science is low
in our youth. We can’t persuade our youth that a career in science is
attractive, as they see that the social problems facing young
scientists are not being solved,’ Martirosyan pointed out. But, he
said, there are dedicated youth in the field, and they are working in
science in spite of the difficulties they face.

Martirosyan announced that in important scientific journals published
around the world in the past five years, Armenian physicists are in
third place, behind Russia and Ukraine, in the number of scientific
articles published. The articles bring fame to our scientists around
the entire world.
