CHAIRWOMAN OF ORGANIZER NGO SAYS
YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 2, NOYAN TAPAN. Two regional conferences were
organized last week in Yerevan within the frameworks of the "Millenium
Challenge" program. One of them was dedicated to problems concerning
provision of chemical security, as well as improvement of water and
sanitary conditions in Armenia, and the second one was titled
"Cooperation for provision of chemical security in Armenia." This
statement was made by Elena Manvelian, the Chairwoman of the "Armenian
women for health and healthy environment" non-governmental
organization, which is the organizer of the conferences, at the press
conference held on November 2.
In her words, the results of the conferences are satisfactory as such
up-to-date issues as maintenance of water cleanness, prevention of use
of chemical weedands for agricultural purposes have been raised. As
Lilit Simonian, the Deputy Chairwoman of the non-governmental
organization, mentioned, at present the organization is cooperating
with the government of the Republic of Armenia in the direction of
eliminating the grave of chemical weedands existing in the country. A
special group is already being formed in the government for that
purpose, in which the representatives of the Ministries of
Environmental Protection and Urban Development will be included.
