ArmInfo. Russia like any other country is interested in stability
around ad near its borders, RA Ambassador to RF Armen Smbatyan told
the Day.az asked about his opinion on the statement that "Russia will
do its best for the Armenians and Azerbaijanis could never recover
good-neighbourly relations".

"I do not agree. Just on the contrary, Russia does the best for the
parties could agree and build good- neighbourly relations, since it
is beneficial to Russia as well. The fact that millions of Armenians
and Azerbaijanis have a job in this country and maintain the economic
stability and relative social welfare in their countries by their
salaries, stands high. The position of Russia’s authorities, who
always expressed readiness to become a guarantee of direct agreements
reached between us, is very important and realistic", the ambassador
said. Talking of the conflict and its beginning, A. Smbatyan said that
"this is, in fact, a real trial which faces our peoples. It appeared as
a result of accumulation of problems during many years and an attempt
to solve them within several weeks". At the same time, he emphasized
that "Only we are responsible for the development of events, only we
should agree and come to forgiveness and consent which rules out the
mistakes of the past", the ambassador said.

Asked how unsettlement of the Karabakh conflict affects the
interrelations between the Armenians and Azerbaijanis living in
Russia, Armen Smbatyan said that the Armenians and Azerbaijanis
live, work and often cooperate in business so that an observer,
being incompetent in history, may ask: "Is there, generally, any
conflict between these peoples?". He also said that the Armenian and
Azerbaijani communities in Russia have such civilized interrelations
that they may be considered exemplary today. This is the merit of
both the communities and their leaders, as well as the Russian state
and the Russian public, A. Smbatyan said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
