YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 6, NOYAN TAPAN. Besides the traditional parties,
there is no other political force with real ideas in Armenia, Vahan
Hovhannisian, vice speaker of the RA National Assembly, member of
the ARF Bureau, said during a talk with NT correspondent. At the
same time, he expressed an opinion that that the period that has
passed since Armenia’s independence is too short for party building,
and this process is going on.
Speaking about ARF’s cooperation with the Ramkavar-Azatakan Party
(RAP), V. Hovhannisian said that Dashnaktsutyun will not only welcome
but also assist this party’s substantial return to homeland. "To us,
an ideological rival is of more value than competition with a faceless
group of people that has money but no ideas," the ARF Bureau member
stated. At the same time, he pointed out that the format, in which
this party has functioned in Armenia so far, is not so efficient.
According to V. Hovhannisian, in the early 1990s when traditional
parties began to return to homeland, the right-wing liberal field
had already been occupied by other forces which later displayed their
bankruptcy and quitted active politics. In his words, people, whose
ideas are a mere haze to pursue their own goals, constantly emerge
in this field but RAP is a really ideological force. "You may share
these ideas or may not but one thing is obvious: the party with these
ideas must be in Armenia," Vahan Hovhannisian said.
