Defense Minister Mikael Harutyunyan today received a delegation led
by Iran’s Defense and Armed Forces Minister, Major-General Mostafa
Mohammad Najar.
Individual interviews were held with each minister at the start of
the meeting, after which delegation members were included. It was
established that previous meetings between the ministers had led to
deepening ties in economy and culture, as well as cooperation in the
field of defense and military hardware.
Concerning advancing cooperation and increasing mutual visits to
each other’s countries, they decisively stated that they wanted to
make this more active. They also discussed a series of regional and
international questions, noting especially that the two nations have
many cultural similarities, and can also realize programs together
in the military and military technology sphere.
Speaking about the solving of the Karabakh conflict, Najar said that
Iran’s position was unchanging, saying that the issue must be solved
peacefully. The two leaders then discussed a wide range of questions,
as well as the current state of cooperation between the two countries.
We remind that the delegation arrived for their three-day visit
yesterday. They were greeted in Zvartnots airport by Harutyunyan,
representatives from the defense ministry, Lieutenant-General Yuri
Khachaturov, Lieutenant-General G. Melkonyan, A.
Nazaryan, representative of the head officer of the armed forces,
Lieutenant-General A. Apriamov, and other armed forces officials.
