YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 8, NOYAN TAPAN. The principle of target programs’
financing was introduced into the Armenian scientific sphere since
2004, the goal of which is to contribute to solution of problems of
applied significance based on scientific researches. Financing of
four target programs from RA state budget has started for the first
time this year. The conference being held on November 8-9 in the RA
National Academy of Sciences is dedicated to the discussion of the
results of the program "Obtaining of Materials with New Properties
from Armenian Raw Materials."

As Aram Shahinian, the Academician-Secretary of the Department of
Chemical Sciences and Sciences Regarding the Country, evaluated,
program’s implementation is mainly a success. According to him,
a number of important results of innovation direction have been
received, some of which will become a basis for new technologies and
their business program.

This target program consists of three sub-programs, "Creation of
Materials with New Properties," "Obtaining of Composition Materials
and Elaboration of the Respective Manufacturing Technologies,"
"Creation of Anti-virus and Radiation Protective Means." The latter’s
responsible person, Academician Aida Avetisian said that synthesis
of anti-virus and radiation protective materials is very important
and always actual for the health sphere.

According to her, many combinations of a new class were discovered as
a result of researches, the most part of which with their activity
surpass the materials used currently. It was also mentioned that
licences for some combinations have been already received.

According to A. Avetisian, once Armenia was considered one of the
main centers of biological combinations. And today, as she evaluated,
development of this branch of science has almost stopped because of
financial problems.
