Czech documentary The Source (Zdroj) directed by Martin Marecek won
the main award at the Sun Child film festival in the Armenian capital
of Yerevan, the AutoMat civic association told CTK today.

The film from 2005 reveals the negative impact of oil mining on the
environment, human rights observance and the political situation.

These days it was officially premiered in the Caucasus where it
was shot.

The Source has been presented in almost 30 countries and has won 17
awards at film festivals.

The film shows not only oil leaks, police repressions against
inhabitants, poverty and extensive corruption in Azerbaijan, but it
also points to the alleged share of the BP British corporation in
keeping the authoritarian regime in power.

The Source was premiered at the One World 2005 international human
rights film festival in Prague where it won the audience award and
the special award of the jury.

It has been broadcast on TV in Estonia, Finland, Germany, and Spain
and distributed in French-speaking countries.

The Human Rights Watch organisation has selected the Source, as the
first Czech documentary, for its touring festival in the USA. The
film was also screened at the conference on oil and politics in London
this year.

In mid-November, the documentary will compete at the international
Environmental Film Festival festival in Turin, Italy.
